Inauguration of SIMA Exhibition

Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery

An exhibition of seascapes and other paintings created by artists of the Society of Marine Artists (under the aegis of the Indian Maritime Foundation) was inaugurated at the Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery, Ghole Road, Shivajinagar on 09 May 2023 by Mr Praful Talera, CEO Dynamics Logistics. The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional diyas by the Chief Guest followed by Capt Anand Dixit, President IMF and Mr Prateek Tandon, Secretary SIMA. This was followed by the Welcome Address by Mr Tandon, the Opening Address by Capt Dixit and the Address by the Chief Guest. In his address, Mr Talera highlighted India’s long maritime heritage and the importance of the seas for our trade and commerce, and consequently for our economic development. He specifically brought out that while India had been invaded over land for centuries, it was the last invasion from the sea by the European colonial powers that ultimately resulted in India losing its independence. He said that marine art helped spread awareness of the seas amongst the citizenry and conveyed his best wishes to all the artists and was confident that the exhibition would be a success.

Following the Address by the Chief Guest, awards were presented to the winners as well as the 2nd and 3rd placed entrants of the SIMA Online Painting Competition which had been held earlier. Certificates of Participation were also presented to all the SIMA artists who had their paintings on display at the exhibition. Cmde Rajan Vir, founder President (and presently President Emeritus) of IMF & SIMA graced the occasion with his presence and gave some words of wisdom on conclusion of the inaugural ceremony.
