SIMA Annual Exhibition

On a bright sunny morning of 27th March 2015 saw 19 SIMA artists participate in the annual SIMA exhibition at Balgandharva Kaladalan, J M road, Members started arriving at 9am for the registration, renewing their membership,and to put up their art works. Fifty paintings and eighteen photographs of seascapes were displayed.

The chief guest arrived at 11.30 and after a quick walk around, the exhibition was inaugurated at 11.40am by lighting of traditional brass lamp by the chief guest Iqbal Chaney, president SIMA Rajan Vir and some other senior members that were present.

SIMA President Cmde Rajan Vir welcomed the chief guest and the gathering with a short introduction of how the organization came into being, and then he proceeded to give a brief about the chief guest Iqbal Chaney. After a bouquet was presented to the Chief guest, he was asked to address the gathering.

Iqbal Chaney being an artist himself and a leading architect having his own architectural firm, mentioned how he became an architect by default when he actually intended to study commercial art at the J J School of arts. Despite a successful career here and overseas, he took to Sunday painting 15 years ago to pursue his passion in painting with encouragement from Pune’s water colour artist Milind Mullick. The proceeds from the sale of his art works goes to a foundation he has set up along with his wife Nina, called the Iqbal Nina Chaney Foundation which funds education to the under privileged children. He said he was most humbled by the invitation to grace the function and to be allowed to display 4 of his water colour works.

After his address, refreshments was served and then the chief guest went around to view the paintings in detail and meet the artists and committee members.

He then distributed the participation certificates and signed the visitors book before he departed.

The exhibition took place from 27th to 29th of March 2015 between 10am and 8.30pm.
