A lecture on “Historical and Contemporary Development of Warships: ‘Types’, ‘Classes’, ‘Projects’, and Inherent Characteristics of Warships” was delivered by Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan, AVSM & Bar, VSM, IN (Retd), Director General, National Maritime Foundation (NMF), New Delhi from 03:00 p. m to 06:00 p.m.on 27 December 2021 at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hall, Main Building, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Ganeshkhind, Pune – 411007. The event was co-hosted by the NMF, SPPU and the Indian Maritime Foundation (IMF), Pune. It was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Nitin Karmalkar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SPPU and had as the Guests of Honour Principal (Dr.) S. Umarani, Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor, SPPU and Prof. (Dr.) Prafulla Pawar, Registrar, SPPU.

On the occasion, an MoU between the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, SPPU and the NMF and IMF was also signed. Additionally, a new PG Diploma Course on “Maritime Domain Awareness and Underwater Technology” at the DDSS, SPPU was inaugurated.

The lecture was attended by students from SPPU, NCC Cadets, Sea Cadets as well as other school children and was also livestreamed on the SPPU YouTube channel. A recording of the event may be viewed here.
