Wreath Laying Ceremony at Seafarers Memorial

Council Members of the IMF laid a wreath at the Seafarers Memorial at Pune on a cool, pleasant morning in January, to remember and pay tribute to all Indian seafarers who have lost their lives at sea. The Seafarers Memorial was built by the IMF in 1998, with sponsorship and help from Clover Builders. It is located at the junction of Gen Vaidya Marg and Ashoka Marg, near the Tribal Museum and the Circuit House. It is maintained by Oxford Builders.

It was dedicated to the city of Pune at a special function by the chief guest, VAdm Arun Prakash, former CNS, who was then the Commandant of NDA at Khadakwasla. The memorial is dedicated to all Indian Seafarers – naval, merchant naval, fishermen and others, who have lost their lives at sea in service to our nation. It also symbolizes our pride in the bounteous oceans washing India’s shores, and in all those who go to sea.

The wreath-laying ceremony commenced with the reciting of a naval prayer. A wreath was then laid by Cmde Rajan Vir, President of IMF, followed by a one-minute silence. Council members present were Capt R Hajarnavis, Cmde A Chitnis, Cdrs S Taneja and P Rawat, Mrs N Kunte, Mrs S Mirchandani, Mrs P Gulati, and Mr K Ragade.
