Indian Maritime Foundation Museum & Library

In the continuing journey towards our goal to raise awareness of our seas and rekindle maritime consciousness and pride in our people, the establishment of the IMF Museum & Library is yet another endeavour of the IMF to foster greater maritime and environmental awareness amongst our schools and college students. It gains importance since India is reckoned as one of the major maritime nations globally and owes this status to the dedication and selfless services rendered by Indian seamen.

The IMF’s Maritime Museum & Library is located in the Anantrao Pawar College of Engineering & Research (location), a well-diversified and reputed engineering institute under the aegis of Akhil Bhartiya Maratha Shikshan Parishad (ABMS Parishad) and inaugurated on 27 May 2022. Inspired by the revolutionary work of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule in educating the masses, ABMSP was established in 1907 with the support of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, the ruler of Kolhapur. Anantrao Pawar College of Engineering & Research (APCOER) is affiliated to Pune University and under the mentorship of the College of Engineering, Pune has graciously made its facilities available to house the IMF Museum & Library in their campus.

The Museum displays photographs, images, models of both merchant marine and naval ships, artefacts such as navigational instruments, videos, regular film shows on maritime history, marine environment and current events, some of which may be viewed below.

The library houses books on global navies merchant marine, shipping and fishing industry, ports both naval and commercial, travel (both fiction and non-fiction). These books and artefacts have been presented to the IMF by various philanthropists and well-wishers. Documentary films of historical and current maritime interest are also screened for interested visitors.
